Tip Us

CultureObserver.uk welcomes tips from readers, industry professionals and whistleblowers. The publication is operated by Sliema Media Limited (Malta Business Registry C 84217, registered office Level 3, Tower Business Centre, Tower Street, Swatar, Birkirkara BKR 4013). Editorial oversight rests with Editor‑in‑Chief Vanessa Shaw (contact details). All tips are reviewed by the standards desk led by Patrick Nolan, and handling follows the policies set out in this page.

What makes a good tip?

A good tip is specific, verifiable and clearly in the public interest within UK entertainment journalism. CultureObserver.uk focuses on stories that matter to UK audiences: celebrity developments, television and streaming news, film and music industry stories, entertainment business reporting, public‑interest matters, institutional wrongdoing, and data that reveals systematic problems. We value tips that include documentary evidence such as emails, contracts, internal communications or verified financial records. Anonymous tips are accepted, but we prefer sources willing to discuss on background so we can assess credibility. We do not accept rumours, gossip or unsubstantiated speculation; every tip must have a clear factual basis that can be independently checked.

How should I submit a tip?

Send story tips to tips@cultureobserver.uk; for time‑sensitive breaking news use newsdesk@cultureobserver.uk; press releases and media inquiries go to press@cultureobserver.uk. All emails are monitored by the editorial team and forwarded to the relevant editor: Adam Pryor (Managing Editor), Isabelle Reed (TV & Streaming), Leon Carter (Celebrity & Royals) or Grace Hollis (Film & Music). If you are unsure which address to use, start with tips@cultureobserver.uk. We respond to all submissions within five working days (see section on acknowledgement). Please do not send sensitive material by unencrypted email unless you have first discussed security with our standards desk.

What information should I include?

Include the who, what, when, where of the story and any supporting materials – documents, screenshots, internal memos, audio or video files. State clearly whether you wish to be on the record (attributed by name), on background (described generically, e.g. “a former employee”), or off the record (not for publication but to guide our reporting). For anonymous submissions, explain why anonymity is necessary. The more context you provide, the faster we can evaluate the tip. If you have a competing publication, please disclose that so we can manage exclusivity. Contacts and phone numbers are optional but helpful for follow‑up.

How do we verify tips?

The Standards & Fact‑Checking team, led by Patrick Nolan (fact‑checking policy), reviews every tip before any story is developed. Verification includes source corroboration, document authentication, and cross‑referencing with public records and our own databases. We never present rumours as facts; if a tip cannot be confirmed through multiple independent sources or verifiable documentation, we will not publish it. Our full standards on sourcing are set out in the Sources & Standards page. Where a tip involves allegations against a named individual or organisation, we give the subject a reasonable opportunity to comment before publication, in line with our editorial policy.

Is my submission confidential?

CultureObserver.uk treats all tip submissions as confidential. We will not disclose your identity without your explicit consent, except where required by law. For legal or regulatory concerns, contact legal@cultureobserver.uk. Our data handling practices are governed by the privacy policy, which explains how we store and process personal information. If you need a secure channel, email complaints@cultureobserver.uk with “Security request” in the subject line, and we will arrange encrypted communication. We strongly advise against including sensitive personal data (bank details, national insurance numbers, etc.) in initial correspondence.

What happens after I submit?

You will receive an acknowledgement within five working days. If you have not heard back, please check your spam folder or resend via the contact page. The editorial team assesses whether the tip fits our coverage and meets verification standards. If we decide to pursue the story, we may contact you for further detail or to arrange an interview. If we decline the tip, we will inform you briefly; we are not obliged to explain our editorial decisions. Corrections to published stories should be sent to corrections@cultureobserver.uk under our corrections policy. We aim to correct errors promptly and transparently.
