CultureObserver.uk takes editorial accountability seriously. This page explains how you can submit a complaint about our content, how we handle it, and who oversees the process. Our operating company, Sliema Media Limited (registered in Malta, company number C 84217), is committed to transparent and fair complaint handling.
Who is responsible for handling complaints?
The Editor-in-Chief, Vanessa Shaw, has ultimate responsibility for editorial complaints at CultureObserver.uk. She oversees editorial policy, corrections, publication decisions, and content quality. All complaints are managed in accordance with our editorial standards and this procedure.
Sliema Media Limited, the Maltese-registered company behind CultureObserver.uk, delegates day‑to‑day complaint handling to Vanessa Shaw and her team. The Standards & Fact‑Checking Lead, Patrick Nolan, reviews factual disputes and source verification. Serious matters – such as privacy breaches or significant editorial failures – are escalated directly to the Editor‑in‑Chief.
How do I submit a complaint?
To submit an editorial complaint, email complaints@cultureobserver.uk with the article URL, publication date, a clear explanation of the issue, the specific statement or content you challenge, supporting evidence, and your name and contact details. This information allows us to investigate efficiently.
Please be as precise as possible. For example, if you believe a quote was misattributed or a fact is incorrect, tell us the exact words you dispute and provide your source. You may also submit a complaint by post to our registered office in Malta, but email is strongly preferred for speed and traceability.
What happens after I submit a complaint?
We acknowledge receipt of your complaint within five working days. Our team then reviews the matter, consulting the relevant editor (such as Isabelle Reed for TV coverage or Leon Carter for celebrity pieces) and the Standards & Fact‑Checking Lead, Patrick Nolan. Serious issues are escalated to Editor‑in‑Chief Vanessa Shaw.
Once we have completed our investigation, we will provide a written response explaining our findings and any actions taken. If we uphold your complaint, we will correct the content, add a note, or take other appropriate remedial steps. If we do not uphold it, we will explain our reasoning. We aim to resolve most complaints within 15 working days, though complex cases may take longer.
What about corrections or privacy concerns?
If your complaint concerns a factual error, please see our corrections policy. For privacy-related issues – such as unwanted personal information or concerns about our coverage of individuals – refer to our privacy policy or our dedicated celebrity privacy policy.
We distinguish between corrections (factual mistakes) and complaints about editorial judgement, privacy, or tone. Where your issue involves both, we will handle it under this complaints procedure and coordinate with the relevant policy. If you are unsure which route to use, simply send your concern to complaints@cultureobserver.uk and we will direct it appropriately.
Where can I find our editorial standards?
You can review our full editorial policy at /editorial-policy/, which sets out our sourcing, fact‑checking, and content guidelines. For general inquiries or to reach our team, visit /about-us/contact/.
We encourage readers to familiarise themselves with these policies. They explain how we select stories, verify information, and maintain editorial independence. Our standards are designed to ensure accuracy, fairness, and respect for privacy.
