CultureObserver.uk is committed to correcting significant errors promptly and transparently. The publication is operated by Sliema Media Limited, a private company registered in Malta (Malta Business Registry company number C 84217), with its registered office at Level 3, Tower Business Centre, Tower Street, Swatar, Birkirkara BKR 4013. Although the operating company is registered in Malta, editorial coverage is focused on UK audiences and UK-related entertainment subjects, and this policy governs all content published on CultureObserver.uk.
Who is responsible for corrections at Culture Observer?
The Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Patrick Nolan, oversees all corrections and is the first point of review for error reports. Patrick (patrick.nolan@cultureobserver.uk, +44 20 4587 9491) manages the standards desk, which handles fact-checking, source verification, image attribution, and celebrity privacy review. The full editorial team is listed on the Our Team page. For errors that raise serious editorial or legal concerns, the case is escalated to Editor-in-Chief Vanessa Shaw (vanessa.shaw@cultureobserver.uk, +44 20 4587 9486).
How do I report an error?
Readers should email corrections@cultureobserver.uk with the subject line “Correction Request” and include the article URL or headline, a clear description of the error, and any supporting evidence or sources. Providing your name and contact details is helpful but not mandatory; we will acknowledge receipt regardless. You may also send a correction tip through the general contact address info@cultureobserver.uk, but the dedicated corrections inbox ensures faster routing to the standards desk.
What is the process for handling a correction?
Once received, the error is logged and reviewed by Patrick Nolan or a member of the standards desk. The team assesses whether the error is material — meaning it could mislead a reasonable reader on a significant point of fact. If confirmed as material, the article is updated with accurate information, and a clear correction note is appended at the top or bottom of the piece, stating the date and nature of the change. Non-material errors (e.g., minor typos that do not affect meaning) are corrected silently. All corrections follow the principles outlined in our Fact-Checking Policy.
How quickly will I receive a response?
We aim to acknowledge every correction report within five working days of receipt. The acknowledgement will confirm that the report has been logged and will provide an estimated timeline for review. Most straightforward corrections are resolved within ten working days. If the review requires additional fact-checking or legal consultation, we will keep the reporter informed of progress. Response times may extend during public holidays or peak news cycles, but we prioritise transparency throughout.
What happens in the case of serious or privacy-related errors?
Errors that involve potential harm to an individual’s reputation, privacy breaches, or legal liability are escalated immediately to Editor-in-Chief Vanessa Shaw. The Editor-in-Chief works with Patrick Nolan and, if necessary, external legal counsel to determine the appropriate remedy — which may include a full retraction, an apology, or removal of content. Such decisions are documented and, where possible, explained in a published note. Our Complaints Procedure provides further details on escalating unresolved concerns.
