What editorial safeguards are applied to content involving minors?
CultureObserver.uk applies heightened editorial scrutiny to any story featuring minors. We avoid sensationalising children, publishing unnecessary private details, or using invasive imagery. All such content is reviewed by the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead before publication, and we consult additional sources where needed.
We do not name or identify minors in connection with their parents’ celebrity status unless there is a clear public interest justification and parental consent is evident. We avoid photographing children in school settings, playgrounds, or other locations that imply routine surveillance. Our privacy protections extend to young people involved in youth organisations, competitions, or public events; we follow the principles set out in our Privacy Policy and Celebrity Privacy Policy. When covering events such as film premieres or award ceremonies that include minors, we ensure that any reporting does not inadvertently reveal private family details or put a child at risk. We also take care with user-generated content, comments, and reader submissions that might involve young people.
